Ask a group of business executives about the top-three drivers for enterprise content management (ECM) software deployments, and cost reductions will often top the list. Cost reductions can only be accurately assessed, however, by considering ease of deployment and the end-user adoption rates.
If an enterprise lacks the required IT staff resources required to deploy and manage the solution, or if employees cannot see how the ECM system benefits them, the solution will most likely be deemed a failure.
Many ECM solutions are cumbersome and complex, and the time and costs associated with deploying them can be inhibitive. As business users have demanded solutions that are easier to use, less-complex alternatives emerged.
